Helping communities during coronavirus

At LafargeHolcim Bangladesh we take initiatives to serve & develop communities where we operate. In this critical situation, we have extended our support to the communities & people adjacent to Shella & Shillong (India), Chattak & Meghna sites. Below are some measures which we have taken in collaboration with community leaders, Local Administration & Public offices:

Food Packet Distribution

The Company distributed food packets among the local communities around its plant sites at Chhatak in Sunamganj and Sonargaon, in Narayanganj in collaboration with the respective local administrations. 

Hand Washing Units

The company donated number of water tanks to the local administration of Chhatak to establish hand washing units where community people will be able to wash their hands with soap & water. In collaboration with Shella Women’s Welfare Organization (India), LUMPL has also installed hand washing units at the different parts of the Shella Market. 

Awareness Campaign

To aware the People our subsidiary company in India, Lafarge Umiam Mining Pvt Ltd (LUMPL) used poster to aware the local community. They distributed and hanged posters in the different parts of the city especially in the populated area. They have also disinfected one market in that area as a part of the awareness program. 

Mask Distribution

The company distributed number of N-95 masks to the local health centres and administration of Chhatak in Sunamganj & Shella in Meghalaya who are fighting with the Coronavirus from the frontline. The company also distributed breathing masks among the local community of Chhatak, Sonargaon, Shella and Nongtrai in collaboration with respective local administrations.

Basic Medicine Distribution

LUMPL has distributed medicine for cold, cough & diarrhoea in coordination with public health care centre. These medicine will play vital role during the pandemic.  

Vehicles for Local Police Stations

The company has handed over two vehicles to the Sunamganj Police. These vehicles will be used by Chhatak & Doarabazar Police Stations which are the two closest PS of the Surma Plant. Sunamganj Police has thanked the company for the initiative and expressed that these vehicle will help them to serve the community better. The company is also believe that the community will be benefitted at large. The vehicles were purchased for them in November last year and the company believes this was the right time to handover.   

Packet Milk Distribution

The company has distributed 2,400 packets of powder milk among the local communities of Chhatak & Doarabazar thana in collaboration with the local administration.

Contribution to Meghalaya CM’s Relief Fund

Lafarge Umiam Mining Private Limited (LUMPL) donated INR 1,000,000 (Ten Lakhs) towards the Meghalaya Chief Minister’s relief Fund for COVID-19, as part of the Company’s ongoing efforts to fight the pandemic caused by the virus.
